Project overview
WhyBangkok.com is my current solo project: a long-term Bangkok city guide built as a structured Astro content platform.
Context
After earlier Thailand-related projects built together with Marc Ribail, WhyBangkok.com is a more personal project. Thailand is the country I want to retire in, Bangkok is the city I love, and the site is being built as a durable guide that can grow over many years.
My role
My role is the full technical and strategic implementation: Astro development, content modelling, route structure, technical SEO, internal linking, search, deployment, and editorial support tooling.
Technical work
- Built the site in Astro with structured content collections for areas, districts, transport, restaurants, shopping, attractions, accommodation, and guides.
- Created route structures for transport systems, lines, and stations so Bangkok content can be connected instead of isolated.
- Added Pagefind search and a search logging API to support discovery and future content decisions.
- Prepared Cloudflare deployment and performance-oriented static delivery.
- Developed AI-assisted SEO tooling with Supabase, OpenAI embeddings, semantic search, and internal-link suggestion scripts.
What made it interesting
- The project is being built as a connected city guide, not a pile of disconnected articles.
- The technical challenge is content architecture: routes, relationships, internal links, and editorial consistency must work together.
- It connects current Astro development with long-term SEO thinking and a personal relationship with Bangkok.
